My husband and I have been together for 17 years and I have to say we aren’t really “into” Valentine’s Day. That’s not to say we don’t get each other a little something or go out to eat (although we hate the crowds so we usually go out the day after or before). But, we’ve just never put too much stock into getting the perfect gift, having the perfect night or spending a ton of money to show each other how much we love each other.
One thing we’ve always done from the very beginning of our relationship is to get each other cards. When words fail us and we’re not all that poetic to come up with the right words, I am always happy that I can turn to Hallmark and find the perfect card that states EXACTLY what it is that I want to say to my husband. Some years I’ve gone with more of the mushy cards but that’s not really our style either. I tend to like that cards that are funny & sarcastic (which describes my personality too!) but still tell my husband how much I love him. The words that are on the paper, that I know that he picked out and the thoughts that he adds to the cards are more important to me than chocolate or flowers. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting gifts but a beautiful card with thoughts and feelings inside is so wonderful to receive, whether it’s for Valentine’s Day or just because it’s a Tuesday and he loves me and was thinking about me all day.
This Valentine’s Day, put your heart to paper and show someone you love exactly how you feel with a #Hallmark card. Visiting our local Hallmark Gold Crown store is honestly one of my favorite things to do. There’s one person who always loves going to Hallmark with me, too and that’s my 12 year old daughter, Ashlyn. She’s my only daughter so we do a lot of girly things together. I’m so amazed at the person that she is becoming and I’m so thankful and honored that I’m her Mom. For Valentine’s Day, I want to tell her how much I love her and what she means to me so I got her the perfect Hallmark card to tell her that. She’s not going to be my little girl forever but I always want her to know how special she is and what she really means to me.
