We are big fans of Peaceable Kingdom’s cooperative games. Our youngest son is being evaluated for Asperger’s and one of the things that really upsets him is losing a board game. He just doesn’t understand about rules and how he has to be a good sport. We’ve been using Peaceable Kingdom’s board games as a way for him to still play games (which he LOVES) but we’re all playing together & either we all win or we try again together, as a team.
We were very excited to hear that Peaceable Kingdom has new board games for 2013. The game that we got to play is called The Great Cheese Chase. In this game, players work together to get the mice up the path into the attic of the house for a cheese party. While playing, you have to beware of the cat because if he pounces on a mouse, the mouse goes back to start and the climb up to the attic starts over. The goal is to get all 3 mice to the attic before the cat gets there. If you do this, you ALL win!
What’s great about this game is there is no reading required (recommended for kids 5+). There are lots of learning skills taught in this game like strategy, following directions, working well with others, and taking turns. The game is for 2-6 players & it takes about 15 minutes to play (I can’t take playing most games for an hour! I always make an excuse when the kids ask me to play Life!)
Another thing I really love about this game is that the entire game is 100% GREEN. All of the printing is done with soy inks on FSC paper and all of the parts are made from corn-based plastic! So, not only is the game a great learning tool, you can also feel great knowing where all the materials came from.
I love that Peaceable Kingdom puts all the small pieces into a durable envelope so that all the pieces stay together & don’t get lost. Printing the directions on the inside of the lid is a fantastic idea too! I can’t even tell you how many times we’re lost the rules to a board game & forget what this piece does or what this card means.
Another great product we got to try from Peaceable Kingdom is their new sticker books. Now, these aren’t the boring sticker books from when I was a kid. These sticker glow-in-the-dark, dance & flicker or pop out at you with 3D glasses. Also, they aren’t just stickers, they are large-sized posters that come with the stickers so your kids can create their own fun scenes to hang on their walls. These sticker books are recommended for kids ages 3 and up. We chose the 3D Alien Attack book. In the poster, a giant alien is attacking the city. The kids had a great time decorating the scene and putting on the 3D glasses to see the scene “come to life”. This book comes with its own 3D glasses. Included is a 16 3/8″ x 32″ poster, 40 3D stickers and a pair of 3D glasses.
You can buy Peaceable Kingdom games, sticker books & more by heading over to their site or heading straight over to Amazon. The Great Cheese Chase retails for $15.99. The Alien Attack! Sticker Book is $7.99.
One lucky winner will get to choose one of Peaceable Kingdom’s new games (What’s It?, The Great Cheese Chase, Buzz! or Stack Up!, which isn’t even out yet!) OR a sticker book of their choice ( Alien Attack!, Glowing Fairies, Dinosaur, Princess , Magical Ponies or Monster). Enter below on the Rafflecopter & good luck!

They have really awesome games, Vicki!

I like this concept of not worrying about winning. For some kids it is important to learn to handle losing but for some others you need to work on other things first before learning to lose. This can be a great tool.
aspectacledowl says
Absolutely, Heidi! I also love that they are shorter games (like 15-20 minutes) lol

Thanks for the info on Peaceable kingdom Board games. I have never heard of them. We have a few family members who won’t join in because of temper over losing. We will look into this more.

My daughter likes it too. She recently posted her review. Anything that keeps young children focused and learning is good.
