As parents, trying to get our kids to eat things that are good for them is sometimes a battle. Some kids make it harder than others (namely 2/3 of mine!). So, when I was offered a chance to try Lifeway Probugs Frozen Kefir, I couldn’t wait to see what the kids’ reactions would be.
You’re probably saying, “I’m sorry?! Did you say something about food and BUGS?” and my answer to that is simply yes. The Probugs Frozen Kefir is a creamy, healthy & yummy dessert that your kids will love. Plus, it contains 10 live and active probiotic cultures. These frozen treats are made with all natural ingredients and are an excellent source of protein & calcium, plus add in their tart & tangy flavor and they will be a hit with your kids!
While kefir is similar to yogurt, it actually is different. Kefir contains more beneficial cultures than yogurt, plus kefir is cultured for 14 to 16 hours. Most yogurts are cultured for just 2 to 3 hours. The extra time spent fermenting gives kefir its high probiotic activity count. Lifeway Foods has actually become the largest manufacturer of kefir in the US, 25 years after founder Michael Smolyansky began making Kefir in his Chicago-area basement.
We went to Whole Foods to buy own own box of Lifeway Probugs Frozen Kefir to try. This particular Whole Foods only had the Orange Creamy Crawler flavor, but that’s honestly the kind I wanted to buy anyways so I was happy about that. They also come in Goo-Berry Pie & Strawnana Split flavors.
Knowing that my daughter knew exactly what was in our new frozen treats, I thought for sure she wasn’t going to try them. She is 10 years old, stubborn & picky! But I asked her to please try them & she gladly did.
All three of my kids (14, 10 & 5) all had one and all said they tasted just like an orange creamsicle. The orange flavor was very yummy (yes, I had one too! I’m still a kid at heart!) and I would never know I was eating something healthy if I didn’t know better. Nutrition & great taste in one? I’m all in for that!
Since last week was Earth Day, the kids have been learning about recycling & reusing in school & at home. I talked to Ashlyn, my daughter, about taking the box from the Lifeway Probugs Frozen Kefir and reusing it in some way. We came up with a way to organize a lot of the little bits & pieces that are always flying around in my craft boxes. I found these fantastic boxes at Michael’s and have vowed to get organized, which pleases my husband to death because my craft area is also our one car garage! While I LOVE my new crafts boxes, I was losing a lot of the little do-dads in the boxes. I took the empty box of Lifeway Probugs Frozen Kefir, resealed the side we opened with my trusty glue gun and then carefully cut the box in half. I measured and took my time and I wish I could say it came out perfect but we are talking about one of MY projects here folks, so that was not the case.
I then took some pretty duct tape that I already had and covered the outside of both box halves. Once I was done, the two boxes fit perfectly into my new craft box. Now all my little pieces, balls of yarn & washi tape stay put for the next craft project I decide to do. Just goes to show you that you can start with a great treat and end up with some organization as well!

I have never tried kefir but keep hearing such good things about it, so I’ll have to give it a try. My kids like “freezie yogurts” (regular yogurt tubes that we keep in the freezer), so I think they would enjoy this product. Thanks for the review!

love that you freeze it
Colleen Fowler says
I’ve not tried kefir but hear it is really good for you! I take probiotics faithfully since I was found gluten sensitive…and it really helps keep regular.
I and my grandson have dairy allergies so it’s pills for us.
