When I was 21, I got married and nothing could have been further from my mind than the thought, “Do I need life insurance?” Even after being married for a few years and having a couple of kids, I thought that life insurance was something that only people who were my parent’s age needed. My now ex-husband started a new job and had the option of getting life insurance for himself and for me. As much as I didn’t want to think about death and all of the other emotions that life insurance might bring up, I knew that it was something that was definitely needed. If something would have happened to me, he would have had to hire someone to take care of the kids, take care of things around the house and so many other things that I did as a stay-at-home mom. Without life insurance, that would have been a HUGE financial setback for him.
Now that I am about to turn 40 (that’s a whole other conversation!), I am heading into another phase of my life that I never thought I would see happen to me…divorce. Obviously, divorce means the end of a lot of things, like our family living together and having to learn a whole new way of living. But, it also brings up a lot of things that are hard to deal with…things, like I’ll no longer have medical/dental insurance for myself and I won’t have life insurance anymore, as well. If something was to happen to me, not only would this be a huge financial burden for my ex-husband, but it would be even more awful for my three kids who live with my girlfriend and me about 85% of the time. By having life insurance, I can’t guarantee nothing will ever happen to me or if something does happen to me, it’ll make everything all perfect. But, I can guarantee that with life insurance, the kids will be financially taken care of and won’t have such a huge financial burden to deal with.
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably thinking, “Where in the world do I even START when looking for life insurance?”. Ladder is the smart and modern way to insure your life, that also takes the confusion and middlemen out of buying life insurance.
What makes Ladder different from other life insurance companies
- Ladder is a financial technology company that uses a new approach for getting you life insurance. They make getting life insurance easy to purchase, easy to understand and can adapt to your life changes.
- With Ladder, there are no traditional life insurance agents. This means you can easily head to their website, calculate your needs, receive an anonymous quote and then apply online. Simple as that!
- If you purchase life insurance through a traditional agent, it takes an average of 6 weeks from the time you submit your completed application until you have your coverage in place. It’s possible that Ladder can have you fully covered in 10 minutes!
Ladder isn’t just a company that wants to make money off of selling you life insurance. In fact, CEO Jamie Hale knows firsthand how important it is to have life insurance in place. He says:
“Why do I care about this so much? My father died when I was 11 years old. Part of his deep, enduring legacy is that he had the forethought to get life insurance. That meant my brother, my mom, and I could stay in our house. We could be close to our friends and neighbors during a tough time. We had money for college.
That stability provided me with opportunity that changed my life. Or said differently: it allowed my dad to provide me a home and an education, even though he wasn’t there himself. He couldn’t prevent his death, but he could still profoundly impact my life.
There are widespread misconceptions about what life insurance is and what purpose it serves. At Ladder, we focus on this crisp framework: life insurance is a financial hedge against mortality risk. This clean approach gives users the best value and leaves the control of their investments in their very capable hands.
Life insurance is a classic risk management tool. It is a powerful device for people to use as they architect their financial strategy. At Ladder, we hope our product gives users financial zen so they can go live their marvelous lives.”
If you’ve been thinking that maybe it’s time for you to get life insurance, you want an insurance that will be with you through job changes, or if you’re in a season of your life where you don’t have life insurance anymore (like me), head on over to Ladder and see what they can offer you. Right now, they are only available in California but don’t let that deter you! They plan to roll out to customers nationwide this year.
