If you’re like me, you’ve seen ads for Roomba and wondered if it can really work like the commercials say. Or, maybe you’ve gone into Best Buy, like I have, and seen one and thought how cool they really look, but is it worth the money? When Best Buy sent me an iRobot® Roomba® 870 to try out, I couldn’t have been more excited. Vacuuming is one of the chores I really dislike doing but know that it’s necessary. My oldest son has asthma and allergies and we rent a home that has carpet. Not to mention, this place is the dustiest place I have ever lived and I am constantly dusting furniture!
After trying out the iRobot® Roomba® 870 over the last 2 weeks, I can honestly say that I love it! One the first try, I made sure not to vacuum for about 4-5 days prior to see how it did. Within about 15 minutes of vacuuming around my home (which is pretty darn small at 1000 sq. ft.), the Bin Full indicator (a red icon that looks like a trash can) came on, letting me know that I needed to empty it. It’s SUPER easy to empty too, which is a huge plus.
With the iRobot® Roomba® 870, you can set a schedule for when the Roomba will go clean your home. You could do this after the kids have gone to bed or when you’ve all left the home for the day. You also won’t have to go searching for the Roomba either, because it will automatically return to it’s home base to recharge between cleanings! But, you don’t have to schedule the cleanings if you don’t want to. I do it manually (just pressing the “Clean” button) so I can make sure that no one left anything on the floor that could interfere with Roomba doing his job.
This Roomba features their most powerful vacuuming system and delivers 5x the suction and removes up to 50% more dirt, dust, hair and debris. With it’s large HEPA filter, it helps keep dust, danger & allergens out of the air. Plus, it has Tangle-free AeroForce™ Extractors, which basically means you won’t be cleaning brushes from hair & junk like in other vacuums. Plus, the Roomba easily moves over different surfaces so it has no trouble going from carpet to tile and back again.
One of the biggest things I was concerned about was thinking that I was going to have to close doors to rooms I didn’t want the Roomba to go into or areas where we might have cords hanging down & I didn’t want the Roomba to pull anything off a desk or table. But this Roomba, comes with the coolest things ever. There are 2 virtual Wall Barriers that comes with the vacuum (and includes batteries too). You simply switch them on and aim them to keep the vacuum out of rooms or areas you don’t want to go in. We’ve tested it out so many times, in so many different ways and the Roomba always detects them and stays clear of the area. It’s awesome!
You can find theiRobot® Roomba® 870 at Best Buy (retails for $599).
