Please welcome my friend, Dinah from DIY Inspired as she shares how she created a fantastic Reading Nook for her daughter!
Thank you, Tara for having me guest post today at A Spectacled Owl! I’m really excited to be here! I want to share this reading nook I made for my daughter for her room. I love this reading nook idea because it takes little space, and adds charm and character while encouraging good reading habits to our little ones.
I stumbled upon some photo ledges that I thought would fit perfectly for this project. I also found a fun cherry blossom decal and added it to the plain walls along with two photo ledges at a height that would make it easy for my toddler to reach. I hung them off set from one another. I purchased and painted some wooden letters in different styles to spell out “books” and “read” with acrylic craft paint. I didn’t originally plan on it saying “read books” but I found an old curb side pick-up frame that I thought would look cute around the words and went with it!
My daughter actually picks up and reads her books more often now because they are displayed. No longer hidden in her organization cubes, her books are now easily accessible and a constant reminder that she has them!
Thanks again for letting me share! Come visit me for more DIY Inspiration!

I am totally doing this. I have tons of books at my house and I keep them for each age range of my nieces, nephews and friends. I buy and collect new ones when I find them so fantastic that I just cannot leave them. Reading is like breathing to me. I LOVE this Book Nook. Thanks for my next home project. You rock.

I completely agree with you, Elizabeth. I am always sad when people say they don’t read 🙁 All 3 of my kids are big readers too <3

So so important to start from day one, and this is just so cute.

I like that. The books are visible and it may teach the kids at a younger age to put things away.

Love this idea. We have a little alcove off the kitchen that this is perfect for. Also a nice way to display most-used cookbooks in the kitchen! 🙂

This is adorable! I love the words in a frame!! When I taught 1st grade, the students were much more opening to choosing books when they were displayed outward, instead of sideways on a shelf. My little girl LOVES (more like she’s obsessed!) books…. I should do something like this for her room so she can see the books easier and find the one(s) she is looking for easier! 🙂 Thanks for posting!

I encourage reading for my kids and as I have a chair where I sit and read I think it is important to designate a place where they feel comfortable and where the books are easily accessible. The frame is fantastic as are the shelves.

Okay – this is awesome! I really have to find a good spot on our house to do it! My husband is not a huge reader (except for magazines and newspapers) but I’m trying to change that with our kids! I am a librarian after all!

Such a cute idea and easy to do (still need lots of bookshelves but this would be a nice rotation idea)
