Gardening – Not Just For The Springtime

I often hear people saying how much they love to garden, whether it’s flowers or fruits and vegetables. In theory, I would love to be great at gardening. Ok, even good at gardening would be ok. Who am I kidding? Not killing things would be an improvement over how I garden.

We have a small garden area and everything planted here, was planted when we moved in. I’ve gone to different nurseries and seen so many amazing things but I’m so afraid to spend money on anything just so I can kill it! I’ve been dying to get a miniature fruit tree for so long. Plus, our garden is very green but it’s just that…green. Very little color whatsoever!

Since we have the weather here in San Diego to have lots of pretty things outside all year round, I decided we need some color outside!  I’ve been trying to think of how to incorporate some color without digging up a ton of stuff or spending a ton of money.  Of course I went to my favorite place I go to when looking for crafts, recipes, pretty much anything known to man…Pinterest! (By the way, if you’re not following me on Pinterest, now is a GREAT time to go do that!)  After searching in the gardening area, I found a post over at Samplers and Santas that really interested me.  Marly took an old galvanized tub, hung it on a hook and added plants inside! (Although you should read her post, she did it out of anger first haha!) I just love the thought of taking something old and adding new, beautiful flowers to it to make your garden look so pretty!  She even has rusted paint cans with plants inside!  Go check out all her pretty pictures!  I would love to use yellow pansies  in the tubs because they’re pretty and my 4 year old is obsessed with anything yellow!

Inside my tub, I would use Miracle-Gro® Moisture Control® Potting Mix. I love that this potting mix absorbs 33% more water than ordinary potting soil and protects against over and underwatering! Plus, it helps plants grow twice as big as ordinary potting soil, feeds plants up to 6 months with Miracle-Gro® Continuous Release plant food, and is enriched with MicroMax® nutrients for hearty, vigorous plants. That is exactly what a novice (understatement of the year!) gardener like me needs!  This kind of project would make it seem like I know what I’m doing in my garden, when really I haven’t got a clue!  Have you ever done Fall gardening?  What’s your favoite thing to do in the Fall…add color, plant a new shrub, something else?

  5. I would love to replicate that awesome bucket, but I need to wait for spring. In Ohio, it would die in this weather faster than you could get it planted…Wayyyy too cold! lol

  9. Oh, man! I’m a terrible gardener. I’m just too lazy to spend all that time weeding, but I do dream of having lovely flowerbeds in front of the house someday. I love the old tub being used as a planter!
