Copy-Kids is a DVD that lets us see kids eating different kinds of fruits and vegetables. The thinking is, if your child (ages 6 months to 5 years old) watches other kids eating and enjoying fruits and vegetables, they too will want to try them. I thought it sounded great in theory. I also thought “Well they don’t know MY kids! They are too incredibly stubborn for this!” (I honestly have NO idea where they get their stubbornness from, thank you very much!).
When we received the DVD in the mail, I explained to Ryan, my 4 year old son, what it was all about. I showed him the DVD cover & we read the names of the fruits and vegetables that we were going to see. He instantly said “But, I don’t like those! I’m not eating it!” He and I went to the store together and talked about the things we were buying. Ryan chose a yellow pepper because he is obsessed with yellow. He picked out the oranges he wanted and even said we needed to get grapes because they are his favorite (even though they weren’t on the DVD.)
We got home & I cut up everything and tried to make it look as appetizing and appealing as I could and hoped he would try everything. I also cut up the same amount for my 9 year old daughter, Ashlyn. Even though she is out of the range that the DVD is designed for, I knew she needed to see it because she is the pickiest of my 3 kids.
The kids tried yellow peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, oranges, grapes and carrots. Ashlyn wasn’t very adventurous but that’s what I expected with her. She did at least try everything, though. That’s huge for her! Ryan, however, surprised me. He loved watching the kids eat everything and couldn’t wait to move onto the next thing to try. Ryan loved the tomatoes (he finished them all!) and I was shocked because he normally picks them out of everything.
I was incredibly happy with the DVD and we watched all the chapters, even the food we didn’t buy yet. I will say that my favorite part of the whole DVD was the outtakes. I am so thankful they included that part because we all cracked up watching the kids.
