When we first moved into our home, there was plenty of space. Our oldest son was 8, our daughter was 5 & I didn’t even know I was pregnant with our youngest (found that out a month after we moved in. Surprise!). We only have 2 bedrooms but with only 2 kids at the time, sharing wasn’t an issue. We figured we’d live here a couple of years and buy something of our own. 5 1/2 years later we’re still here & now there are 5 of us living in a 2 bedroom. However, I think that living here has taught us to do the best with what you have. Our place might not be the nicest on the block BUT we live in a nice neighborhood that we really like, our rent hasn’t gone up in over 7 years (friends of friends lived here before) and we have just enough space.
The downside is, we still only have 2 bedrooms. The older 2 kids are in bunk beds in the smaller room & Ryan has a twin bed in our room. Thank you God that our master bedroom is a good size! Because of this, we’ve never really decorated our side of the bedroom or invested in nice bedding. Since I am trying to make Ryan’s side more organized & more inviting (so he’ll sleep in HIS bed, not mine lol), I decided it was time to make our side look nicer too.
The first step in making our bedroom look better was choosing bedding from bedding.com. I was really impressed with how many choices I had when I went to look at the queen comforter sets & the queen quilt sets. There were so many that I personally loved but I knew that my husband would like something neutral & not colorful. I decided on the Trafalgar Quilt Set. The colors are different from anything I would normally choose but I loved the texture of the quilt. My husband thought that the one I chose was still “too busy” but I swear if it was up to him, our quilt would be all one color (ala our last comforter which was solid brown…boring!)
Description: Colorblocked with rich tones of rust, gold, moss and cream, Trafalgar features floral and scroll quilting with embossed texture enhanced by the soft lavish microsuede. Bordered and reversed to a solid chocolate. Face: 100% Microsuede. Back & Fill: 100% cotton. Each quilt set includes 1 quilt and 2 pillow shams (1 sham per Twin set). Dimensions: Twin Set 68×86″ + 20×26″sham, Full/Queen Set 86″x86″ + 20×26″ (2)shams, King Set 100″x90″ + 20″x36″ (2)shams.
I really love the feel of the quilt & pillow shams. It’s incredibly soft but I also love the texture of the scroll quilting that is sewn on top. It really adds another dimension to an already beautiful quilt. I added a high thread count sheet set (from Ross, I paid $40 for the set) and a great, plus mattress cover (also from Ross & $30) and my bed is the best it’s ever looked! I even found a great place for my new OWL pillow that I picked up at Target!
I am extremely happy with the look and quality of my new quilt set from bedding.com. I am also THRILLED that it is machine washable and it actually fits into our washer! (Our old comforter didn’t fit & I’m not one to get to the dry cleaner very often!)
Question: I’d like to make something simple to go above our bed, any ideas? If you’ve made any DIY projects or seen any good ones, leave the links below so I can check them out!

I know exactly what you mean! We were in a 3 bedroom with 4 kids to begin with, but had two more while we lived there. 8 people in 3 bedrooms was tough. We had to really keep things to a minimum! We have a larger house now, and I swear we have 10x the amount of crap. Almost was better before! I have been looking for a new sheet set for my room, I’ll have to check them out!

Isn’t that the truth, Tiffany? As much as I want another bedroom, we’re fine here. Now it’s just time to make little changes to make it look better 🙂

Thank you, Jesi! I was thinking about the canvas you did 🙂 Maybe something similar!

I will stop complaining that we don’t have enough rooms! We sort of have three bedrooms but you have to go through one bedroom to get to the other. We also have a basement and we have a friend staying there. when he leaves, we will work on getting the girls down there and my son upstairs so we can use what is currently his room as an office or something. That way he goes through an office to get to his room instead of his sisters going through his room to get to theirs.
I’m sorry I can’t help you with DIY projects though, so NOT my forte!

I know what you mean about needing a larger home, but making due with what you have. Looks like you are doing a beautiful job, love the bedding. As far as your question, have you thought of Vinyl Wall Art? It doesn’t take up any space at all, and can be personalized to fit your style. Let me know if you need to see some ideas, but there are all sorts to choose from out there. 🙂 Great post!

Don’t know if you’ve done anything with over your bed yet, but I saw just yesterday a craft where you take a matching sheet and quilt it to a board that you stick (staple?) to the wall so that it looks like a matching headboard. I wish I could remember the site, but maybe you can find it by googling!
Tara says
Thank you! No we actually haven’t done anything but I will have to start Googling 🙂

Beautiful stuff that they have…and I love the owl pillow (how appropriate!). We are redoing our bedroom so I will have a look-see and see if anything on their site will work for us.
